Hearts of Life Exhibit
Modern landscape Artist Allan Chow’s new subject matter further showcases his talent with a palette knife. Hearts of Life is a collection of his latest studies of still lives that enriches the mind and soul through bold, exuberant colors, texture and conversations.

This body of work represents a chapter of Allan’s evolving career. Change is never comfortable nor pleasant for it feels like your body is rejecting a foreign substance through pain. But it is one’s job to find a creative way to cope for the desire to succeed is worth dying for. Though the paintings are not in order, each of them represents his efforts finding a voice with a new subject matter through experimentation while his quest for a new chapter in his career continues. In the process, personal struggles, random thoughts, personal conversations and expressions flows through his bold paint gestures and compositions.

2010 Visions of the Flint Hills Juried Exhibition


BEST OF SHOW

VISIONS OF THE FLINT HILLS BENEFIT AND SALE is a juried exhibit featuring art of the Flint Hills. The exhibit will run from October 1, 2010 thru November 20, 2010, in the Buttonwood Art Space (www.buttonwoodartspace.com ), 3013 Main Street, Kansas City, Missouri.  Partial proceeds from the event benefit the Kansas Park Trust, a non-profit organization, which promotes the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve and the Flint Hills of Kansas.

Gallery Hours:
Monday through Friday - 9:00 am to 5 pm
Saturdays - 10 am to 3 pm
Sundays and Evenings by Appointment
First Friday October 1 and November 5 - Open House Food/Drink 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Palette knife painting is one of the best ways to help you simplify even the most complex and detailed subject matters. This painting style offers you the Art of painting wet on wet, creating textures with oils and provide you tools that allow you to finish a painting quicker. Explore and learn to paint with palette knife painter Allan Chow.

Each week, you will be given a different composition to paint from. You will acquire techniques throughout the workshop that you are able to apply right away in class each week. Subject matters vary from still lives, seascapes to landscapes.

This painting started with some drawings I did while I was in an airplane earlier this year. I especially wanted to experiment with a combination of color, space and relationships between shapes. I have always found pears to be a unique subject matter to paint. It has all the curves that an Artist want in a subject matter. What makes a difference is how an Artist interprets them in his/her own unique style and experience as an Artist.
I believe in this case, my style brought the honesty out of this subject matter and in exchange, a painting that speaks for all who is willing to listen. Enjoy!

"Majestic Hills" is another interpretation of the Tallgrass Prairie of mine. One of the most magnificant attribute of the Flint Hills is the layers of pastures that look like a field of waves standing still. It is quite a sight. As I carved my way through the paint with my knife, there is always an urge to venture off my original composition and color palette. Whatever it takes to get the job done I suppose. Anyway, hope you all enjoy! Moving on.......

BKD Kansas City Commission

This was a commission by BKD of Kansas City, this painting now resides in their new building
off 12th and Walnut downtown Kansas City office. The Scarritt building located on the far left of the painting was their first location. The setting sun helped give this painting most of its' warmth palette with complimenting blue greens in the shadows. It was a fairly large painting but finished just in time for the opening day. I hope they like! Thank you BKD!
